Another Perfect day in Paradise

August 31st, 2009 by Nicolette Bailey

The weather is still cooperating for the grapes to turn color and begin to ripen. We are going to drop a little more fruit to reduce the green grapes left, take off a little sunburn, and enhance ripening with a little less fruit to mature.

We had a beautiful affair with Gizelle and Ashley last night. What a beautiful night!

Many wonderful guests here again tonight.

Been wine tasting all day today. We have a helicopter tour tasting on Thursday.

20 YEARS

August 29th, 2009 by Nicolette Bailey

Youngberg Hill Vineyards & Inn is celebrating 20 years. The Inn was completed 20 years ago and the first two blocks of Pinot noir were also planted in 1989. Look for special events taking place this fall to celebrate with us.

Camelot block is growing amazingly well.  We planted these last fall and they are bigger then knee high already.   They have loved the weather this year!

The warmer weather is helping the grapes and plants ripen just right.  We are done with our last spraying program and can now focus on the harvesting in the next month and getting everything ready.CamelotAugust

Not only grapes

Blackberries are perfect right now and our guest are loving them at breakfast time or stopping at a dozen or more places around the vineyard and picking them along the way.blackberries

It feels like fall

August 24th, 2009 by Nicolette Bailey

Wow! It got down to 48 degrees last night. We are spraying what may be our last spray of the season today. That is if the weather cooperates. The fruit looks beautiful right now, but we still have 6 or 7 more weeks on the vine.

We had two wonderful weddings on the hill this weekend.  Two beautiful couples starting theirs lives together at Youngberg Hill. The evenings were perfect with a beautiful sunset to compliment their events.

What is going on (or not) in Minnesota? We have guest coming from all over the world and frequently have guests from more populous states such as Florida, Texas, and New York. But over the last ten days, we have had guests from Minnesota every night and none of them knew eachother. I guess Minnesota has finally discovered Oregon.

Cheers!

Veraison

VeraisonWe are over 25% over all, but this cluster is over 50% color change. It is a very exciting time as you see the purple hue take over the fruit zone in the canopy.

It also gives a better perspective of how much fruit is on the vine.

Hope you can come out and see the change and tastes the wines that come from these grapes.

grapes1 The grapes are starting to turn in the Pinot noir. The fruit is full, the cluster count is high and the clusters are heavy. We have thinned twice already and are deciding whether to cut again before harvest and when.

Saw you were picked as the Adventurist Approved business in Oregon Adventurist.  (I assume you already know this, but just in case… http://www.OregonAdventurist.com)  Wanted to say that I think you guys were a great choice for this. I’m not sure how often people email you letting you know what a great business you’ve got there, but we attended a wedding last year and have been looking forward to an opportunity to return to the Willamette Valley so we can spend more time at the Vineyard.  Hope you’re having a great year filled with lots of happy guests.
