Wine Country Lodging Getaway – Jura Suite

JuraRm-01The Jura Suite was originally two, small, separate guest rooms in the Inn that were combined in 1994 to make a larger suite.  Although it was always a beautiful room, we knew that we could improve it, and in late December of 2012 we took on the challenge of welcoming in the coming year by giving the Jura a complete makeover!

There were four main focus areas for design; the view, the headboard, the larger bathroom with glass wine sinks, and the fireplace.  Everything else fit around these elements.   The beautiful original panoramic windows always filled the room with light and gave guests a full view of the valley, so we decided to keep them.  It felt great to kick off the Jura remodel by making an energy efficient update that corresponded with our convictions to uphold good environmental practices here at Youngberg Hill .  Although we loved the original trim, the chance to change the trim color throughout the entire room in order to give the room some special flare that set it aside from all the rest was simply too fun to pass up.  We now enjoy a dark chocolate trim that picks up the tones of the other new additions in the room – the headboard and the wood grains in the exposed beams above.

The headboard was made from our recycled wine barrel staves.  For the Jura, we wanted to make the barrels an important part of the room, to showcase the character of each stave, to give more guests the opportunity to see the unique beauty of the woven barrel motif that we so enjoy, and to connect the essence of the room with the wine that we make.

We planned the new Jura Suite remodel knowing that we wanted to expand the bathroom.  There is nothing quite as luxurious as a beautiful, JuraRm-04spacious bathroom with all the best trimmings and trappings, and that was top on our list as we began to put together the details of the remodel.   Inspiration for the bathroom accent colors came from the one-of-a-kind wine bottle sinks that I made – another great project that allowed me to connect with my artistic side.  The sinks become more amazing when you understand that most wine bottles are not compatible with one another, so melting them together would be an accident and an unsuccessful venture.  I was told many times that it could not be done.  Never tell a Greek woman that something can’t be done!  I am SO proud of them and am very thrilled to share them with you.

The sinks are a prominent feature in the Jura bathroom, but there are other amazing features as well.  We added a new, spacious tile shower with glass walls.  With its waterfall showerhead, it is the kind of shower that will make you feel as if you’ve been transported to the tropics.  The Jacuzzi tub is another fantastic addition.  We placed it right in front of the beautiful two-sided fireplace, making it that much better with the option to gaze at the fire while relaxing in the tub.  The fireplace wasn’t easy to vent, but we could not be happier to have it in place.  It can be enjoyed from the bed on one side and from the Jacuzzi tub on the other.  Now that’s what I call heaven!

In the end it took a team to finish this room, and we had a beautiful journey together.  A special thank you to Ryan Melhoff, Melissa Davaz, Jess Davis, & Nicole Wilson www.nicolelwilson.com.  Oh, yes… we all decided not to tell Wayne about ANY of the details of this project in advance.  We took great measures to keep doors closed, to keep design discussions a secret, and to steer Wayne away from the room if he tried to catch a sneak peak.  I walked him into the finished room for his first glance and it was great to see the surprise on his face.  He loved it!  I think that we should plan on doing all of our future projects at the Inn that way too!  We hope that you are able to come and see the new Jura Suite for yourself, and are offering a special giveaway package on Facebook this month at  http://a.pgtb.me/hpltb3

I salute you on the accomplishment of your project. Maika’i. A night at Youngberg Hill is most definitely on our ToDo list. It is only a few miles from our home, but a world away.

Thank you for letting us stay in this beautiful room! We won a nights stay over a year ago when our church (Church on the Hill) had their HOPE ON THE HILL concert there..we waited until May of this year to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary at your INN..and you made it so special! Loved the bottle of wine with “HAPPY ANNIVERSARY” written on it waiting on the bed!!! The welcome, the wine tasting, the breakfast, and all in between was spectacular! We have a disabled daughter, who requires round the clock care, so getting away is difficult. Having this wonderful place so nearby was a rare and true retreat. Thank you again…WE LOVE this place, ..and this ROOM is amazing..all the comforts you could ever want, the views are unbeatable, love those windows, the attention to detail and design elements are keeping in step with the vineyards that surround you…and topping it off by sitting in a wonderful deep jacuzzi tub with the fireplace right in front of you..the sinks made from wine bottles, THAT makes it even more special….. just WOW..would love to win another nights get-a-way here! Thanks again..you are wonderful hosts!!
