2006 Vintage

It was a great fall weather season that allowed us to let the fruit hang longer and stay dry. 2006 overall was a great growing year. We did not experience the heat that areas lower in the valley did. While it was a dry year, we had sufficient rain fall over the winter and spring, that we had ample water available for the vines all year. In fact, the vines looked as good this year as they have in several years proving that the organic farming practices are paying off. As a result, we believe this will be Youngberg Hill's best vintage ever.
The challenges this year for many vineyards in the valley were higher brix and higher ph (lower acids), which make for higher alcohol and less structured wines. However, because of our altitude and cooler climate, our brix were normal (23.7) and our ph right on target at 3.3, which will make for rich, opulent wines full of fruit, complexity, and structure.
